Guitar player Mattias Windemo and pianist Mattias Risberg, two well known profiles on the Swedish jazz scen, have collaborated now and then over the last 15 years. They have both taken the step from “big city” to countryside and are now living in a house each with pine trees and birds as neighbors and inspiration. The music they are doing together comes very much from that source but also from philosophical and existential talks about life and art. And, of course, from joy.
Their debut album “Mattias, Guitar and Piano” (released Nov 11, 2018 on Mowinde records) is a recorded conversation between this two gentlemen about a year ago when Windemo visited Risberg for the first time in his recently bought house. The dialogue started at once, in the hall and continued gradually at the instruments. No cd was planned at the first point but after the session they decided to release it, without cuts or clips – the listener invites to be a part of the progress and that very special occasion. It´s all improvised. The duo explore respective string instrument and the blend the combination of the two transforms. Counterpoint ideas with independent voices that “just happens” to be together for a while or a split second is a part of their soundscape.
